Position Summary

It is the responsibility of the Lone Star Corporate College Instructors to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the department, college, and the community. The Instructor member's role encompasses the general areas of learning facilitation with company incumbent workers as students. When not instructing, may include taking part in curriculum development, development of potential new clients, professional development, and institutional service. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning in a corporate environment.

Job Functions

  1. Works with curriculum designers to develop client specialized highway construction courses to meet individual Corporate College client needs including construction math and blue print reading, and all technical training.

  2. Teaches courses in highway construction at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional and client needs.

  3. Develops and uses a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college and departmental guidelines.

  4. Delivers technical training curriculum programs

  5. Reviews, evaluates, and revises program curricula and practices to assure compliance with professional standards, Lone Star College and state-mandated policies.

  6. Evaluates students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and informs them in a timely manner of their progress in the course.

  7. Serves as highway construction subject matter expert/consultant to Lone Star College and Corporate College team. May represent the college on various industry trade associations and/or internal projects.

  8. When not instructing, position may be responsible for curriculum development, development of the department, professional development, and institutional service as determined by department leadership.

  9. Continuously recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize hazards. Responsible for integrating safety process and a safety attitude in training.

  10. Develops and maintains professional relationships with trainees, colleagues, and the community.

  11. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of related work experience in highway construction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (high school diploma and 8 years of related experience, Associate's degree and 6 years of related experience, or Master's degree and 2 years of related experience)

  • Willing and able to complete Ives Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor Certification course as requested by college

  • Bilingual-Spanish

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year in technical training including adapting training techniques to students of both technical and non-technical backgrounds

  • At least 5 years working in the road and highway construction industry

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of highway construction trade including prints and construction math.

  • Mastery of course content

  • Demonstrated leadership skills; style that emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to diversity; ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints; ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.

  • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement, learning communities, and the effective use of technology.

  • Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning.

Physical Abilities

  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to bend, twist, squat, and lift 75 pounds, and pull his/her own body weight plus equipment weight up a vertical tower repeatedly for long periods of time.

  • Must be comfortable climbing at various heights if needed.


Hiring Salary is commensurate with education and experience

Work Schedule & Conditions

Monday-Thursday: Noon-9pm; Friday: 8am-5pm.
